Life and death can be funny things. They can strike our lives at any given moment. But it's what we do with these circumstances that truly define who we are as people.

A family’s worst nightmare came true this past 8th of February in 2009, when their young boy disappeared in north Queensland. The young boy, Jeremy Doble, did not have the happy ending one would have hoped for. Instead, this five year old boy was found eaten and killed by a nearby crocodile. But while many would show no mercy, this young boy’s parents show signs of grace.

Jeremy Doble's Last Moments

Jeremy Doble was last seen on his parents’ property. However, one afternoon while he played, he followed his dog into the nearby water. His parents possess a boardwalk that enters into their river’s northern bank. This was the last time the young boy was seen.

Weeks later, authorities had trapped two crocodiles. One was immediately ruled out, while the other, however, was sent to Cairns so that a vet may examine it’s stomach. Upon examination of the four metered long crocodile, human remains were found. DNA testing was led by the John Tonge Forensic Center, and the remains were confirmed to be those of the young Jeremy Doble.

Family Shows Kindness Towards Crocodile

Now while most people faced with this kind of situation would probably offer that this crocodile be put down, this amazing family is doing just the opposite. They do not wish any harm to come to this animal. And they state that the crocodile was just doing what came naturally to him. It is a wild animal after all. The sheer strength and graceful beauty that this family shows is quite inspiring. Acts like this are a true reminder of how people can and do show signs of love, mercy, compassion, and above all grace towards all others. It is most comforting to know that people in this world do show these kind acts and traits.

The Crocodile's Fate

Upon coming to this conclusion, the crocodile will not be released back into the wild. Instead, it will be sent to a crocodile farm or zoo. However, due to its involvement in a tragic human fatality, the crocodile will not be put out for the public to view it. But the crocodile will be given adequate caring for and the opportunity to live out it’s life.

While most cannot even begin to conceive of the pain that this family is going to, no one can deny that what this family is doing for another living creature who has done them wrong is extremely commendable. This crocodile has been given a second chance to continue its existence here on earth. Whether it deserves it or not is not the question, the point is, this creature from the Daintree River is given the true gift of mercy.
